Mahi Binebine was born in 1959 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
He is a brilliant and prominent artist and novelist. It is in Paris that took his first steps to producing abstract work. In 1994, he moved to New York to dedicate himself fully to writing and painting which he considers to be mutually conducive; "the writing is done through small touches of the inside that create the images, while painting is the creation of the image which allows access to the inside."
Since 2002, Mahi Binebine lives in Marrakech. It is in this city that he found bees wax as well as natural pigments that give a unique transparency to his paintings. His last paintings are pared down, softer, almost pastel.
In New York and Paris, his work was very well received and examples of his art can be found in the permanent collection of the Guggenheim museum. Mahi's work is sold worldwide and has been auctioned at prestigious auction houses. He has been exhibiting his work since 1987 and since then he has participated to a number of group and solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, Marrakesh, Madrid, Casablanca, Moscow, Dusseldorf, Venice...
