Mohamed Fariji was born in 1966 in Casablanca.
He graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts of Tetouan and the Llotja School of Art and Design of Barcelona.
By developing long-term artistic projects, Mohamed Fariji questions the place of the artist in his city. He proposes environmental initiatives that question the power and the public bodies by means of a socially engaged artistic practice which takes various forms: photography, workshops, performances or installations in-situ.
Mohamed Fariji was also involved in the exploration of urban myths, collective memory, individual histories and socio-political and architectural urban narratives. He also includes in his artistic work the production of publications, educational and curatorial projects, within the Atelier de l'Observatoire, a platform for art and research that he co-founded. The artist has also worked on numerous projects with the Espace Divers in Barcelona, which he founded and directed from 2003 to 2011.
Mohamed Fariji lives and works in Casablanca.
